VSU earned another feather on its cap when it was designated again by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Center of Excellence (COE) in Agriculture effective January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018. The COE Award was given on May 17, 2016 at the CHED Auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City. It was received by the VSU President, Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, and the CAFS Dean, Dr. Victor B. Asio. VSU has been a CHED Center of Excellence in Agriculture since 2000 up to the present. Aside from the plaque of recognition, the College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) will receive funds from CHED worth PhP 3M, which will be used to finance research and extension projects and to improve the facilities of the nine ( 9 ) departments under the College.
As COE, VSU has been recognized by CHED as a higher education institution which continuously demonstrates excellence in the areas of instruction, research and publication, extension and linkages and institutional qualifications. The university’s College of Agriculture and Food Science is specifically expected to provide leadership in the fields of plant and animal sciences, soil science, social sciences and development studies in Visayas and Mindanao.
